Panjgur Assault: 8 Dead, 11 Injured After Armed Attack on Security Checkpoints

PANJGUR, Balochistan, August 2, 2025 — In a meticulously coordinated assault across three security checkposts, militants killed eight Pakistani soldiers, wounded eleven, and left three missing in Gwargo, Panjgur district. The attackers, numbering over 80 men in 11 Zamyad vehicles, first sabotaged communication lines and then ambushed arriving reinforcements, according to local security sources.

The militants struck simultaneously, disabling the posts before the Quick Response Force could mobilise. Pakistani forces reportedly killed at least eight attackers, but insurgents removed their bodies, placing them into vehicles before retreating under pressure from reinforcements.

This incident marks one of the deadliest recent assaults on military personnel in Panjgur district—part of a wave of insurgent operations across Balochistan. On earlier occasions, separatist outfits claimed responsibility for attacks that killed multiple soldiers in Panjgur and elsewhere. For instance, a January 2025 operation by Baloch insurgents killed dozens of security personnel across the region in synchronized strikes.

Balochistan continues to face severe instability as armed separatist groups, notably the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), intensify attacks on security and infrastructure targets. These groups target paramilitary checkpoints, communication networks, and highway routes to disrupt governmental control. Operation Baam, a recent insurgent campaign between July 9–11, exemplified the scale of these coordinated attacks, claiming dozens of military casualties across multiple districts.

Islamabad has condemned the Gwargo attack in the strongest terms. Security authorities have reportedly imposed curfew and communication shutdowns in Panjgur following the assault. The military has launched clearance operations to locate missing personnel and pursue fugitives among the insurgents.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior military leadership reaffirmed the state’s resolve to counter terrorism and separatism, stressing that such acts will not derail Balochistan’s development efforts.
