Muslim Powerhouses Align as Türkiye and Pakistan Boost Defence Coordination

ANKARA, August 1, 2025 — Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Naveed Ashraf, held a high-level meeting with Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence, H.E. Yaşar Güler, during an official visit to Ankara. The meeting, confirmed by Pakistan’s Embassy in Türkiye, underscores the growing depth of strategic and defense relations between the two brotherly nations.

Discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral naval cooperation, enhancing maritime security collaboration, and reviewing matters of mutual interest. Admiral Naveed Ashraf also met with the Turkish Naval Forces Commander, Admiral Ercüment Tatlıoğlu, highlighting the importance of military-to-military engagement in shaping future defense coordination.

The visit comes at a time when Pakistan and Türkiye are expanding their strategic defense partnership, particularly in the maritime domain. Both nations already cooperate closely on several joint projects, including the MILGEM-class corvette program — a symbol of their deepening defense-industrial ties. The growing partnership includes joint training exercises, naval operational coordination, and knowledge-sharing in areas of naval doctrine and strategic planning.

This latest engagement between Pakistan’s top naval leadership and Turkish defense officials is expected to open doors to further collaboration. It may lead to expanded naval exercises, co-production of defense technology, and a shared vision for enhanced maritime presence in the region — particularly in the Indian Ocean and Eastern Mediterranean.

With both countries committed to regional peace and security, the high-level meeting not only reinforces long-standing historical ties but also signals their intent to develop stronger strategic naval capabilities through mutual cooperation and trust.
