BEIJING — Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir has completed an official visit to China, during which he held a series of high-level meetings aimed at deepening the strategic and defence partnership between Pakistan and China.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), COAS Munir met with senior Chinese political and military leaders in Beijing, including Vice President Han Zheng and Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The discussions focused on regional security, evolving global developments, and ongoing collaboration under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
“Both sides expressed satisfaction with the depth of bilateral engagement and reaffirmed their shared commitment to sovereign equality, multilateral cooperation, and lasting regional stability,” the ISPR noted.
Chinese leaders commended the Pakistan Armed Forces as a pillar of resilience and a vital force for peace and stability in South Asia.
On the military front, COAS Munir held talks with General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), as well as other senior officials from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), including General Chen Hui and Lieutenant General Cai Zhai Jun.
These meetings covered a wide range of topics, including defence modernization, counterterrorism, joint training exercises, and improved institutional coordination. Both sides highlighted the importance of enhancing operational interoperability to address hybrid and transnational threats effectively.
The Chinese military leadership reaffirmed its strong confidence in the bilateral defence relationship and acknowledged Pakistan’s key role in promoting regional peace and stability. Field Marshal Munir thanked China for its consistent support and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further expanding military cooperation “across all domains.”
A guard of honour was presented to the COAS at the PLA Army Headquarters, symbolizing the historic and enduring friendship between the two militaries.
ISPR emphasized that the visit reflects the growing strength of political and military ties between Pakistan and China and underlines their shared resolve to maintain regional peace through sustained strategic engagement.
China Backs Pakistan’s Counterterrorism Efforts
During his meeting with COAS Munir, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the Pakistan military as a strong defender of national sovereignty and a staunch supporter of China-Pakistan friendship, according to state-run Xinhua News Agency.
Wang reiterated China’s readiness to deepen strategic cooperation with Pakistan based on mutual respect for core national interests. He stressed the importance of implementing the agreements made by the leadership of both countries and expanding their all-weather partnership to deliver greater benefits to the people and contribute to regional peace.
“China fully supports Pakistan’s efforts to combat terrorism in all forms and expects the Pakistani military to continue ensuring the security of Chinese personnel, projects, and institutions in Pakistan,” Wang stated.
Field Marshal Munir assured the Chinese leadership that cooperation with China enjoys consensus across all sectors of Pakistani society. He expressed gratitude for China’s unwavering support in Pakistan’s socio-economic development and reaffirmed that the military will continue to take all necessary steps to protect Chinese nationals and interests on Pakistani soil. He also emphasized the armed forces’ commitment to strengthening counterterrorism cooperation between the two countries.
