Pakistan Sets Sights on Global AI Race with China Partnership

KARACHI: Pakistan and China are exploring new joint ventures in artificial intelligence, smart cities, and digital innovation, the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication announced on Friday, following a high-level meeting in Islamabad between Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong.

The meeting reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to strengthening their long-standing digital partnership through knowledge-sharing, technical cooperation, and joint projects in emerging technologies.

“This dialogue has paved the way for collaborative ventures, skill development, and knowledge transfer in critical areas of the digital economy,” the IT ministry said in a statement. “Both parties underscored the importance of using technology to drive inclusive development and agreed to push forward initiatives that enhance digital cooperation between Pakistan and China.”

Minister Khawaja highlighted Pakistan’s digital strategy aimed at boosting economic growth and improving public services through technology. Ambassador Jiang reiterated China’s support for practical cooperation and technical collaboration in key innovation sectors.

The discussions included plans for deeper collaboration on smart city projects, artificial intelligence applications, and broader digital transformation goals.

The ministry called the meeting a significant step toward realizing Pakistan’s vision for a tech-enabled economy.

Pakistan’s ‘Digital Pakistan’ initiative focuses on expanding broadband and 5G access, fostering digital literacy and youth innovation, improving e-governance, and encouraging investment in tech startups, IT zones, and export-oriented technology firms.
