ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue with India to resolve all outstanding issues.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott, who called on him in Islamabad on Wednesday.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Shehbaz extended his best wishes to King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, expressing his anticipation for a meeting with the UK leadership later this year.
He welcomed the UK government’s decision to resume Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to and from the United Kingdom, noting that the move would ease travel difficulties for the British Pakistani community and strengthen people-to-people ties. The Prime Minister especially praised the High Commissioner’s efforts in facilitating this development.
On bilateral relations, Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in Pakistan-UK cooperation, highlighting the recent trade talks as a step toward creating mutually beneficial opportunities. He also noted Pakistan’s active collaboration with the UK at the UN Security Council, where Pakistan currently holds the rotating presidency.
Regional developments in South Asia and the Middle East were also discussed. The Prime Minister appreciated the UK’s constructive role in reducing tensions during the Pakistan-India standoff.
High Commissioner Marriott thanked the Prime Minister for the meeting and briefed him on her recent trip to London, where she held extensive consultations on strengthening Pakistan-UK ties. She commended the Pakistani government’s economic achievements under Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, citing improvements in key macro-economic indicators. She also shared the UK’s outlook on regional issues in South Asia and the Middle East.
