QUETTA – A senior officer of the Pakistan Army’s Military Intelligence (MI), Major Anwar Kakar, was martyred in a devastating improvised explosive device (IED) attack near Jabal-e-Noor in Quetta, Balochistan, on Friday. The targeted explosion struck the vehicle in which Major Kakar was traveling, killing him on the spot. Security officials confirmed the attack and stated that a search operation is currently underway in the surrounding area to apprehend those responsible.
Major Anwar Kakar served as the sector head of Military Intelligence (MI) for the Khuiratta sector along the Line of Control (LoC), a highly sensitive operational region. In addition to his strategic responsibilities in border intelligence, he had also been attached to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces, where he contributed to national communication and defense narrative operations.
Sources within the security establishment described Major Kakar as a dedicated and decorated officer with years of experience in intelligence gathering and counter-terrorism. His previous assignments included significant counter-insurgency operations in both urban and rural Balochistan, making him a known and targeted figure among anti-state elements operating in the region.
The martyrdom of Major Kakar is being seen as a major loss to Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to curb terrorism and sabotage attempts, particularly in the insurgency-hit areas of Balochistan. Condemnations poured in from military leadership, political figures, and civil society, all paying tribute to his courage, sacrifice, and relentless service to the nation. Funeral prayers were held with full military honors, attended by high-ranking officials and fellow soldiers.
