Amid ongoing heavy rainfall and deteriorating weather conditions, the Rawalpindi district administration has declared a one-day public holiday. The announcement came through a notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema, who urged residents to stay indoors and avoid all non-essential travel.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner had issued an advisory warning citizens to remain inside for the next two to three hours due to weather-related risks. He added that emergency response teams and drainage operations are actively working to manage the situation.
Rawalpindi has already recorded over 200 millimeters of rainfall, with more rain expected in the coming hours.
Meanwhile, in Faisalabad, the torrential rains have led to a tragic toll. Over the past two days, at least 11 people have lost their lives and more than 20 have been injured due to roof collapses triggered by the downpour. Among the victims were several family members, including a husband and wife, a mother and daughter, two brothers, and a mother and son.
One of the deadliest incidents occurred on Thursday morning in G Block, Allama Iqbal Colony, where a second-floor roof collapsed, killing two brothers—17-year-old Muhammad and 11-year-old Musab Hussain. Their father, 50-year-old Khalid, mother Farhana, and 12-year-old sister Shanza were also injured.
Rescue efforts continue amid the unstable conditions, with authorities urging the public to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines.
