FBI Lists Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Among Most Wanted Fugitives

The FBI has added Iran’s current ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, to its most wanted list, accusing him and two other senior Iranian officials of being involved in the 2007 abduction of retired FBI agent Robert A. “Bob” Levinson from Iran’s Kish Island.

According to the FBI, the release of “Seeking Information” posters featuring Moghadam and the two others is part of an ongoing investigation into Levinson’s disappearance and Iran’s alleged attempts to cover up its involvement.

The other individuals named are Taghi Daneshvar, a counterespionage officer with Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS), and Gholamhossein Mohammadnia, a senior MOIS official and former ambassador to Albania, who was expelled in 2018.

“These three intelligence officers are believed to have played key roles in Bob Levinson’s abduction and the subsequent efforts by Iran to conceal the truth,” said Steven Jensen, Assistant Director of the FBI’s Washington Field Office. “Bob likely died in captivity, far from his loved ones.”

He added that the FBI remains committed to holding those responsible accountable, describing their actions as “reprehensible.”

At the time of the abduction, Moghadam—also known as Ahmad Amirinia—was heading MOIS’s operations unit, with European-based agents under his command in Tehran. The FBI further stated that Iranian authorities tried to pin the blame on a militant group operating in Pakistan’s Balochistan region.

A reward of up to $5 million remains in place for information leading to Levinson’s recovery and return. Additionally, the U.S. State Department’s Rewards for Justice program is offering up to $20 million for useful leads in the case.
