Afghan Taliban government top official statement shocks policy makers in Pakistan

The Taliban government in Afghanistan has asserted that it lacks a formalborder with Pakistan, as reported by TOLO News on Sunday. Acting AfghanMinister of Borders and Tribal Affairs Noorullah Noori stated during avisit to the Torkham border crossing that there is no recognized border orzero point with Pakistan, referring to the Durand Line as an imaginarydivision between the two nations.

This declaration follows the recent reopening of the Torkham bordercrossing for trade after a 10-day closure initiated on January 13 due todisputes over document regulations for commercial vehicle drivers.

Noori expressed that the border between Islamabad and Kabul remainsunclear, emphasizing the existence of what he termed “imaginary lines”between the two countries.

The Torkham crossing, situated equidistant between the capitals ofIslamabad and Kabul, experienced frequent closures last year, occasionallyleading to armed clashes between border guards.

Responding to inquiries about periodic tensions along the border, Nooriconveyed that Afghanistan is actively working to address and resolve suchissues in a proper manner.
