A plea to halt proceedings against former Prime Minister Imran Khan and hiswife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case was dismissed by a District and SessionsCourt in Islamabad. Imran Khan, the PTI founder, is accused of marryingBushra Bibi during her ‘iddat,’ a waiting period observed by Muslim womenafter the termination of a previous marriage.
During the case hearing in Adiala jail, petitioners’ counsel Usman Gil andKhalid Yusuf contended that the ongoing court proceedings had already beenchallenged in the Islamabad High Court.
They argued that as the marriage falls under the jurisdiction of thehigher court, the proceedings should be suspended until the Islamabad HighCourt adjudicates their plea.
The counsel further emphasized that despite Bushra Bibi’s absence from thecourt proceedings, she was indicted on January 16.
