The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has acquitted PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif ofcharges in the Avenfield Apartments references. A division bench comprisingIHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb heardNawaz’s appeals against his sentence in the Avenfield and Al-Azizia SteelMills cases. He had been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the AvenfieldApartments case.
Nawaz Sharif, accompanied by his legal team, was present in court duringthe proceedings. Additionally, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)decided to withdraw its appeal against Nawaz’s acquittal in the Flagshipreference, which it had filed earlier in the day.
Following the withdrawal of the appeal, the court disposed of the case.Notably, the NAB had also intended to appeal for an extension of the formerpremier’s sentence in the Al-Azizia reference.
During the previous hearing, in response to the court’s inquiry about theorigins of the presented facts, Nawaz’s lawyer, Amjad Pervaiz, clarifiedthat three facts predated the reference filing, while the remaining weresubsequent.
