The Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology andTelecommunication, Dr Umar Saif, announced that the provision ofsmartphones to customers through easy installments is set to begin soon. InNovember, he disclosed that cellular operators, banks, and investmentcompanies are eager to introduce smartphone installment plans.

However, a crucial mechanism is needed to ensure that these entities do notface financial losses and to effectively extend this facility to thepublic.

Dr Saif believes that providing smartphones on easy installments will notonly boost demand but also prove beneficial for both the mobile phonemanufacturing industry and the country’s economy.

This initiative holds particular significance for a large segment of thePakistani population that previously couldn’t afford high-end phones likethe Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy flagship series. Some individuals whomanaged to acquire iPhones often resorted to buying non-PTA-approved phones.

The installment initiative aims to empower people to purchase PTA-approvedphones, allowing them to pay in installments without experiencing asignificant financial burden. This is crucial as it encourages individualsto consider buying PTA and tax-paid phones over JV and patched phones,which have gained popularity in the Pakistani second-hand mobile market dueto their lower prices compared to officially approved and tax-paid phones.
