The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued a stay order against PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman’s jail trial in the cipher case on Tuesday.The bench, consisting of Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and JusticeSamina Riffat Imtiaz, heard PTI Chief’s intra-court appeal against theongoing jail trial in the cipher case.
Attorney General Mansoor Awan requested the court to adjourn the hearinguntil tomorrow, attempting to avoid an injunction. However, the courtrejected this plea. The Attorney General disclosed that the federal cabinethas approved the jail trial, and an official notification is set to bepresented during the court proceedings.
Justice Aurangzeb stressed the significance of examining the notification’scontents, cautioning that proceeding with the trial would be anextraordinary event. In response, the Attorney General clarified that it isnot an extraordinary trial but a jail trial.
The court clarified that permission to attend doesn’t transform the hearinginto an open court, drawing comparisons to individual charges in the ciphercase.
