New reports of discussion on Pakistan Ukraine Arms deal

Pakistan, on Wednesday, dismissed any discussion regarding arms supplybetween the defence ministers of Pakistan and Ukraine during theirtelephonic conversation, as reported by ARY News.

Foreign Office (FO) Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized Pakistan’spolicy of refraining from supplying arms to regions in conflict, statingthat there has been no past supply and no intention to supply arms toUkraine.

During the telephonic conversation on November 7, 2023, the topic of armssupply was not addressed, according to the FO spokesperson. EmphasizingPakistan’s stance, Baloch highlighted the country’s advocacy for anegotiated solution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a year ago, Pakistan hasmaintained a delicate balance. Despite external pressure, particularly fromthe US and its western allies, Islamabad has not publicly condemned Russia.Additionally, Pakistan abstained from voting on a resolution at the UNGeneral Assembly session against Russia on two occasions.

Furthermore, in response to a news story by Intercept alleging the sale ofPakistani weapons to Ukraine in exchange for an International Monetary Fund(IMF) bailout package, Pakistan rejected the claims.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,denounced the Intercept story as baseless and fabricated in response tomedia queries.
