Important developments in Sheikh Rasheed arrest case

On Monday, an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi approved bail for SheikhRashid Ahmed, the leader of the Awami Muslim League (AML), in the May 9incidents case.

Sardar Abdul Raziq Khan, an advocate, represented former Interior MinisterRashid during the court proceedings. Raziq argued that Rashid’s name hadbeen added to the FIR at Waris Khan police station on October 5, eventhough his client had no connection to the events of May 9.

He further stated that there was no substantial evidence against AML leaderRashid and that his inclusion in the FIR appeared to be politicallymotivated with malicious intent. Special Judge Ijaz Asif noted Rashid’ssenior citizen status and advanced age, and considering this, the courtgranted him bail on surety bonds of Rs50,000.

The court also issued a notice to the other party.

Additionally, the court accepted an interim bail request for former Memberof the National Assembly Sheikh Rashid Shafique until November 8, withSardar Abdul Raziq advocating on behalf of Rashid Shafique.
