The Shebaa Farms, a15-square-mile (39-square-km) region, has been a source of contention sincethe 1967 Middle East war, with both Syria and Lebanon asserting that itbelongs to Lebanon, while Israel maintains control over it.
Hezbollah militants have been engaged in ongoing exchanges of fire withIsraeli forces along the Israeli-Lebanese border since the start of theconflict between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel on October7. This marks the deadliest escalation at the frontier since the 2006 war.
