ECP announced General Elections date and schedule

General elections in Pakistan have been scheduled for February 11, asconfirmed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) during a session atthe Supreme Court. The counsel representing the electoral body, SajeelSwati, revealed that the process of delineating constituencies would befinalized by January 29, setting the stage for the impending polls.

This development came to light as the apex court resumed its proceedings,addressing a series of petitions advocating for elections to be held within90 days following the dissolution of the National Assembly and provinciallegislatures.

A three-judge bench presided over these proceedings, with Chief Justice ofPakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, and Justice AtharMinallah overseeing the case.

The petitions in question had been submitted by the Supreme Court BarAssociation (SCBA), the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Munir Ahmad, andIbad-ur-Rehman.

In the prior hearing, the court had issued notices to both the ElectionCommission of Pakistan (ECP) and the federal government, seeking theirinput regarding the feasibility of holding elections within the stipulated90-day timeframe.
