ISLAMABAD: Great Wall Motor’s Tank 500 has made its debut in Pakistan asthe country’s first locally assembled full-size hybrid SUV, offering ablend of luxury, performance, and efficiency. Assembled by SazgarEngineering under the CKD regime, the model arrives in two variants: HybridElectric Vehicle (HEV) at Rs20,500,000 and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle(PHEV) at Rs22,500,000 ex-factory. Bookings commenced from January 26,2026, with delivery timelines estimated at three to four months, reflectingstrong initial interest amid rising demand for hybrid vehicles in the faceof fluctuating fuel prices.

The Tank 500 adopts a body-on-frame chassis construction, a designtraditionally favored for durability in rugged conditions. Measuring 5,078mm in length, 1,934 mm in width, and 1,905 mm in height with a wheelbase of2,850 mm, the SUV provides ample interior space. The HEV variantaccommodates seven passengers, while the PHEV is configured for five seats,prioritizing rear legroom and cargo capacity. Ground clearance stands atapproximately 213 mm, supported by all-terrain tires and multiple drivingmodes including Sport, Snow, Sand, and Mud.

At the core of both variants lies a 2.0-liter turbocharged direct-injectionpetrol engine integrated with GWM’s Hi4-T hybrid system and a nine-speedautomatic transmission. The HEV delivers a combined output of around 346horsepower and 648 Nm of torque, enabling responsive acceleration andefficient power distribution. Differential locks on front, center, and rearaxles enhance traction, making the vehicle suitable for diverse terrainsfrom urban highways to off-road trails common in northern Pakistan.

The PHEV variant elevates performance further with a larger 37.11 kWhbattery pack, granting up to 102 km of WLTP-rated pure electric range.Combined system power reaches 402 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque, allowingseamless transitions between electric and hybrid modes. Charging optionsinclude AC home charging in up to 6.5 hours and DC fast charging completingin approximately 24 minutes for partial replenishment, addressing practicalneeds for daily commuting and extended journeys in a country with expandingcharging infrastructure.

Interior appointments emphasize premium comfort and technology. Nappaleather upholstery covers heated, ventilated, and memory-adjustable frontseats, complemented by massage functions for long drives.
