Over 100 Baloch Militants Surrender in Dera Bugti Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: In a major breakthrough for peace in Balochistan, more than onehundred armed fighters belonging to the banned Baloch Republican Army,including its senior commander Brahmadagh Bugti and prominent tribal leaderWadera Noor Ali Chakrani, formally surrendered before authorities atPakistan House in Sui, Dera Bugti on Thursday.

The militants laid down their weapons in the presence of senior civil andmilitary officials and took an oath of allegiance to the Islamic Republicof Pakistan, pledging to renounce violence and work for the stability anddevelopment of the province.

Local administration sources described the development as a significantconfidence-building measure between the state and the Bugti tribe, longaffected by insurgency and under-development. The surrender ceremony washeld in a cordial atmosphere, with the returning fighters expressingcomplete trust in state institutions and their desire to contribute towardslasting peace in the region.

Officials present at the occasion praised the decision of Brahmadagh Bugtiand his associates, terming it a courageous and patriotic step that wouldpave the way for accelerated development projects in Dera Bugti andsurrounding areas. They emphasised that the return of these individualswould help restore normalcy and create new opportunities for the youth ofthe area.

Authorities extended a renewed appeal to those militants still hiding inthe mountainous terrain to lay down arms and rejoin mainstream societywithout delay. They stressed that the future of the coming generationsdepends entirely on sustainable peace and that the state remains committedto facilitating the honourable return of all estranged brothers.

The administration assured full protection and rehabilitation support toall returning individuals under existing government policies aimed atreconciliation and development in Balochistan.

Similar successful surrender initiatives in recent months have alreadybrought hundreds of misguided youth back into the national fold,contributing to a visible decline in insurgent activities across severaldistricts.
