ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia visitedthe Pakistan Pavilion at the Egypt Defence Expo (EDEX) 2025 in Cairo, whereit received an extensive briefing on Pakistan’s advanced indigenous defencesystems displayed by Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS).

The delegation, comprising senior military and procurement officials, spentconsiderable time at the GIDS stand examining latest missile technologies,including precision-guided missile systems, unmanned aerial vehicleplatforms, loitering munitions, and integrated air defence and electronicwarfare solutions. Pakistani officials demonstrated the operationalcapabilities and export-ready status of these systems, highlighting theircombat-proven performance and cost-effectiveness.

The visit signals deepening strategic defence ties between Riyadh andIslamabad at a time when Saudi Arabia seeks to diversify its arms suppliersand strengthen partnerships with reliable Muslim-majority nationspossessing robust indigenous defence industries. Analysts interpret thedetailed engagement as a precursor to major procurement contracts, withSaudi Arabia likely to acquire Pakistani missile systems, UAVs, and relatedtechnologies in the near future.

Pakistan’s participation in EDEX 2025, one of the largest defenceexhibitions in Africa and the Middle East, has attracted significantinternational attention. The Pakistan Pavilion, jointly organised by theMinistry of Defence Production and leading local firms, showcases thecountry’s transformation from an arms importer to a competitive exporter ofsophisticated weaponry.

Defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia has expanded rapidlyin recent years, encompassing joint exercises, training programmes, andtechnology transfer initiatives. The presence of a high-level Saudidelegation at the GIDS stand reinforces mutual commitment to enhancingbilateral military-industrial collaboration and addressing common regionalsecurity challenges through shared capabilities.

Industry sources indicate that negotiations for specific Pakistani systems,including medium-range ballistic missiles and advanced drone technology,are already at an advanced stage, reflecting growing Saudi confidence inPakistan’s defence manufacturing ecosystem.

The successful display at EDEX 2025 further elevates Pakistan’s standing inthe global arms market and demonstrates the maturity of its defenceexports, which have recorded steady growth despite international sanctionsand competition from constraints in the past.
