ISLAMABAD: Security agencies have arrested an Afghan national in Talagangwho has made startling confessions about an active terrorist recruitmentand attack network being run from Afghanistan against Pakistan. The suspectidentified himself as Qasim alias Hassan son of Lal Khan, belonging to theDilozai tribe and originally from Gardez, Paktia province of Afghanistan.
According to security sources, the suspect illegally migrated to Pakistanaround ten years ago with his family and settled in Lakki Marwat districtof Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he grew up and established close ties withlocal residents. He claimed that in 2025 he met a Taliban commander namedArmani in the Sar Dargha area who invited him to join “jihad” againstPakistan. The suspect stated that he subsequently joined the outlawedorganisation and stayed for nearly twenty days in one of its training camps.
In his alleged confessional statement, Qasim revealed that Commander Armaniordered him to carry out a suicide attack and, along with an associatenamed Farooq, conducted reconnaissance of a military fort in Tajuri area.The planned fidayeen attack, however, could not materialise due to lack ofopportunity.
The arrested individual further confessed that he was later tasked withrecruiting fresh fighters for the terrorist outfit and was paid tenthousand rupees for each successful recruit. He claimed to have handed overfive individuals to Commander Armani. In September this year, whiletravelling to Punjab for further recruitment activities, he was apprehendedby law enforcement agencies in Talagang.
Security officials stated that the confessional video of the suspectprovides fresh evidence of Afghanistan’s soil being systematically used forterrorist activities inside Pakistan. Authorities emphasised that Islamabadhas repeatedly presented similar irrefutable proof to the internationalcommunity in the past, yet meaningful action from Kabul and its backersremains absent.
The security agencies have made further arrests of the accused network. Thearrests come at a time when cross-border attacks by Pakistan-focusedterrorist groups, particularly the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan and itsaffiliates, have surged following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in2021. Pakistani officials maintain that safe havens and logistical supportinside Afghanistan continue to fuel terrorism on this side of the border.
