ISLAMABAD: Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday sentshockwaves by directing India’s armed forces to remain on maximum alertand “be mentally prepared for an Ops Sindoor-like situation”, in a clearreference to any large-scale military strike against Pakistan similar tothe fabricated 2025 operation that India had dubbed Operation Sindoor.
Singh warned that Pakistan-based militants could attempt another attack andstressed that the Indian military must stay ready to deliver a crushingresponse at short notice. “The armed forces should remain fully preparedfor any eventuality. Be mentally ready for an Operation Sindoor-likesituation whenever required,” he said, according to sources present at theclosed-door meeting.
The statement comes amid heightened tensions along the Line of Control,where repeated Indian accusations that Pakistan continues to supportcross-border terrorism – charges Islamabad categorically rejects. Pakistanimilitary officials described Singh’s remarks as “provocative andirresponsible”, warning that any misadventure would be met with a befittingresponse.
Analysts say the aggressive posture is partly aimed at domestic audiencesahead of upcoming state elections, where the ruling BJP traditionally playsthe strong-on-security card. However, the direct invocation of “OpsSindoor” – the Indian codename for the 2025 airstrike that Pakistan provednever reached its intended targets – has been interpreted as a deliberateattempt to keep the war rhetoric alive.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office is expected to lodge a strong protest with NewDelhi while the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has already placedall units on heightened alert in response to the Indian minister’sbelligerent tone.
