ISLAMABAD: Three Constables including a woman constable of the Chhattisgarhpolice, often deployed alongside Central Reserve Police Force units inanti-Naxal operations, were injured on Wednesday when a improvisedexplosive device detonated in the Gogunda hills of Sukma district.
The blast occurred around 1:30 pm during a routine area-domination patrolby a joint team of District Police Force and CRPF personnel. The womanconstable stepped on the hidden IED, planted by CPI (Maoist) cadres,suffering severe injuries to both legs.
Two other personnel accompanying the team received splinter injuries butdid not require evacuation. Immediate first aid was provided at the sitebefore the seriously wounded constable was airlifted by helicopter to amulti-specialty hospital in Raipur.
Doctors attending her described the injuries as serious yet stable, addingthat multiple surgeries would be needed to repair extensive tissue and bonedamage. Senior police officials confirmed the device was a typical Maoistpressure IED designed to target foot patrols.
The incident took place barely three weeks after another IED blast in thesame district injured a CRPF jawan. Security forces have intensifiedcombing operations in Gogunda and neighbouring forests to trace the Naxalsquad responsible.
Sukma remains one of the worst Maoist-affected districts in India,recording the highest number of IED explosions against security personnelthis year.
