Finland Announces Closure of Embassy in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland has officiallyannounced the permanent closure of its embassy in Islamabad, marking theend of direct diplomatic presence in Pakistan after nearly five decades.

The Finnish Foreign Ministry stated that the decision was taken following acomprehensive review of its global diplomatic network, with securitychallenges and resource optimisation cited as primary factors.

Finnish diplomats highlighted the need to redirect resources towardhigher-priority regions in Europe and Asia.

The embassy, established in 1976, had already been operating with reducedstaff in recent years. Pakistan’s Foreign Office expressed that bilateralrelations would continue through non-resident channels and multilateralforums.

Finnish nationals in Pakistan have been advised to register with thehonorary consulate in Karachi for emergency assistance.
