ISLAMABAD: Terrorists launched a coordinated pre-dawn attack on AhmadzaiPolice Station in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district late Friday night,firing light and heavy weapons from all sides in an attempt to overrun thefacility.
Police personnel posted at the station immediately returned fire, engagingthe assailants in an intense exchange that prevented the attackers fromentering the building or causing major damage.
Upon receiving information about the assault, additional police contingentsfrom Domel and Town police stations rushed to the scene along withpersonnel from other security agencies.
A joint operation was promptly launched, during which security forcescarried out effective counter-fire, forcing the terrorists to retreat aftersuffering heavy casualties, according to police officials.
Five policemen sustained minor injuries during the gun battle. All woundedofficers received immediate medical aid and are reported to be in stablecondition.

The incident marks yet another attempt by militant elements to targetlaw-enforcement installations in Bannu, an area that has witnessed a surgein terror activities over the past months.
