ISLAMABAD: Prominent Islamic scholar and Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind presidentMaulana Arshad Madani has alleged that systemic discrimination preventsIndian Muslims from occupying senior academic and administrative positionsdespite seven decades of independence.
Addressing a gathering in New Delhi on Saturday, the head of Darul UloomDeoband’s teachers’ council stated that a Muslim could become mayor of NewYork or London but remained barred from becoming vice-chancellor of anIndian university.
Maulana Madani claimed the government was deliberately ensuring Muslims“never raise their heads” and cited the imprisonment of senior SamajwadiParty leader Azam Khan soon after he was appointed chancellor of auniversity as evidence of targeted persecution.
He drew attention to the prolonged detention of Al-Falah University’sowners, questioning the judicial process that kept individuals incarceratedfor years without conclusive trials.
The cleric accused successive governments of systematically denying Muslimsaccess to education, leadership roles, and administrative structures,effectively pulling the ground from beneath their feet.
