ISLAMABAD: Pakistani military troops and fighter jets have arrived in Saudi Arabia as part of the mutual defence agreement the Saudi Ministry of Defence confirmed on Saturday.

The deployment marks a concrete step under the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement signed six months ago.

The official Saudi announcement states a Pakistani force has reached King Abdulaziz Air Base in the Eastern Sector.

It comprises fighter and support aircraft from the Pakistan Air Force.

The stated goal is to boost joint military coordination and raise operational readiness between the two armed forces.

This move supports security and stability at regional and international levels.

The pact was inked on 17 September 2025 in Riyadh by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Its core clause treats any aggression against one country as aggression against both.

The agreement formalises decades of deep defence ties spanning training joint exercises and advisory roles.

Pakistan has previously stationed thousands of personnel in Saudi Arabia for security support.

In January 2026 the same base hosted Pakistan Air Force F-16 Block-52 jets for the multinational Spears of Victory exercise involving ten nations.

Saturday’s arrival however is explicitly linked to the new strategic pact rather than routine drills.

The Pakistan Air Force fields over 400 combat aircraft including advanced F-16 and indigenous JF-17 fighters.

Support aircraft in the contingent likely include refuellers and transports for sustained operations.

No exact numbers of jets or troops were released in the ministry statement.

Saudi Arabia maintains one of the largest defence budgets globally exceeding 70 billion dollars yearly.

The pact enables cooperation across land sea and air domains plus intelligence sharing and joint planning.

Regional Saudi media outlets have described the deployment as a major boost to brotherly bilateral ties.

Pakistani officials are expected to issue a matching statement shortly.

Defence analysts view this as the first major operational activation of the 2025 agreement.

It signals integrated deterrence amid ongoing Middle East tensions.

The Eastern Province base offers vast desert terrain ideal for high-intensity air training.

Pakistan’s battle-tested military brings proven expertise in modern warfare.

Saudi forces gain enhanced interoperability with a nuclear-armed strategic partner.

The deployment underscores Pakistan’s pivotal role in Gulf security architecture.

It also aligns with Saudi efforts to broaden alliances beyond traditional partners.

High-level military visits and planning have accelerated since the pact signing.

Future phases could include expanded rotations and technology transfers.

Public reaction on official channels has been overwhelmingly positive with hundreds of thousands of views recorded within hours.

This development cements the agreement as a cornerstone of long-term strategic partnership.

Economic links including Saudi investments in Pakistan further complement the defence cooperation.

Both nations emphasise the move contributes to broader peace and stability.

The arrival sends a unified message of resolve to potential adversaries in the region.

Operational integration between the two air forces has now reached an unprecedented level.

This event is poised to shape future joint exercises and contingency planning.
