Editorial Policy

Times of Islamabad is an independent international news agency dedicated to providing accurate, impartial, and insightful coverage of global defense, foreign policy, terrorism, national and international security, geopolitics, and international relations.

Our mission is to deliver timely, fact-based reporting and analysis that informs decision-makers, professionals, and the public worldwide — without fear or favor.

This Editorial Policy outlines the core principles and standards that guide every aspect of our journalism.

Core Principles

1. Accuracy and Verification

Accuracy is non-negotiable. All facts, claims, figures, and attributions must be rigorously checked against multiple reliable sources before publication.

We correct errors promptly, transparently, and prominently (with a clear correction note at the top of the article, including the date and nature of the change).

2. Impartiality and Fairness

We report without taking sides in conflicts, disputes, alliances, or ideological debates.

Coverage of sensitive topics — such as military operations, terrorist incidents, diplomatic negotiations, sanctions regimes, or great-power rivalries — includes perspectives from all relevant parties whenever possible.

We seek fair comment and balance, especially in fast-moving crises where information is incomplete or contested.

3. Independence

Our editorial content is free from influence by governments, defense contractors, political groups, advertisers, or any external interests.

We disclose any potential conflicts of interest (e.g., sponsored content is clearly labeled as such and kept separate from editorial material).

4. Objectivity in Language and Framing

We use precise, neutral language — avoiding emotive terms, military jargon without context, or loaded descriptors unless directly quoting a source.

In reporting on terrorism, we attribute responsibility based on verified evidence and avoid amplifying unconfirmed claims or propaganda from any side.

Headlines and summaries accurately reflect the content of the article.

5. Source Protection and Ethical Sourcing

We protect confidential sources vigorously and only grant anonymity when it is essential for the story and the source’s safety.

Material from social media, user-generated content, or official statements (e.g., military briefings, terrorist group channels) is clearly labeled and independently verified to the greatest extent possible.

We never pay for information or accept bribes.

6. Handling of Sensitive Topics (Defense, Security, Terrorism, Conflict)

Coverage of armed conflicts, counter-terrorism operations, intelligence matters, and national security threats requires special care:

   – We prioritize verification of casualty figures, territorial claims, and military successes/failures.

   – We solicit reactions from opposing parties and note when independent confirmation is unavailable.

   – We avoid gratuitous graphic detail that could cause unnecessary harm while still conveying the reality of events.

   – We respect operational security where disclosure could endanger lives, but we report on matters of legitimate public interest.

7. Fact-Checking Policy

Fact-checking is integral to our commitment to accuracy, particularly in areas prone to disinformation, propaganda, and rapid misinformation spread (e.g., defense claims, foreign policy statements, terrorism attributions, or security incidents).

   – Every story undergoes multi-layered verification: primary sources (official documents, on-record statements, eyewitness accounts), cross-referencing with independent outlets, and consultation with subject-matter experts where needed.

   – Claims from governments, militaries, non-state actors, or intelligence sources are treated with equal skepticism and require corroboration.

   – In breaking news or crisis reporting, we clearly label unverified information (e.g., “according to preliminary reports” or “unconfirmed by independent sources”).

   – We maintain internal fact-checking protocols, including checklists for high-risk topics, and draw on established global resources (e.g., International Fact-Checking Network standards) for guidance.

   – Errors are corrected immediately with transparent notes; repeated or severe inaccuracies trigger internal reviews.

8. AI Ethics and Usage Policy

Artificial intelligence (including generative AI tools) may support certain journalistic processes but never replaces human judgment, accountability, or editorial integrity.

   – Human Oversight Required: All content involving AI must have active human review, editing, and final approval. AI cannot be listed as an author or co-author.

   – Permitted Uses: AI may assist with tasks such as transcribing interviews, summarizing long documents, suggesting related content, translating non-sensitive material, analyzing open-source data, or generating initial drafts for internal review — always under strict human supervision.

   – Prohibited Uses: AI must not generate full articles, headlines, quotes, or analysis without substantial human rewriting and verification. We do not use AI to create images, deepfakes, or fabricated content.

   – Transparency and Disclosure: Any editorial use of generative AI (e.g., for text generation, summarization, or image creation) is disclosed clearly in the article (e.g., “This article used AI assistance for initial summarization of public documents, with full human verification”).

   – Bias and Fairness: We actively monitor for biases in AI outputs (e.g., in training data or model tendencies) and mitigate them through diverse sourcing and human checks.

   – Data Privacy and Security: No sensitive source material, unpublished reporting, or confidential data is input into third-party AI tools.

   – Ethical Alignment: All AI use aligns with our core values of accuracy, impartiality, and minimizing harm. This policy is reviewed regularly as technology evolves.

9. Corrections, Accountability, and Transparency

Errors are corrected swiftly with a visible note (e.g., “Updated: [Date] — Correction: [Explanation]”).

Readers may contact us via our dedicated feedback form or email (corrections@[agencyname].com). We review complaints seriously and respond where appropriate.

10. Diversity, Inclusion, and Avoiding Harm

Our reporting reflects a broad range of global perspectives and avoids reinforcing stereotypes based on nationality, ethnicity, religion, or ideology.

We minimize harm by considering the impact of our coverage on victims, communities, and ongoing diplomatic/security efforts.

11. Journalist Conduct

Our reporters and editors maintain the highest professional standards:

    – No participation in partisan political activity that could compromise perceived impartiality.

    – Full disclosure of any personal or financial ties relevant to a story.

    – Adherence to safety protocols in hostile environments and conflict zones.

This policy is reviewed regularly and may be updated to reflect evolving journalistic best practices, technological developments, and global challenges in security and international affairs.
