Largest military exercise in Middle East history comprising 20 Islamic Nations to boost ties: Saudi Officials

RIYADH: Saudi Officials claimed that Northern Thunder exercises is history’s largest military exercise in the Middle East which will boost ties between 20 Muslim nations taking part in it.

He claimed that these exercises will achieve their specific goals and raise the military coordination.

The exercise began on February 14 and will end on March 10 in which 150,000 troops are participating from Gulf Arab states, Pakistan and other Muslim countries.

Saudi Arabia is leading the military exercises code named “Ra’ad Al-Shamal” or “Northern Thunder”.

The military drills are taking place in King Khalid military City in kingdom’s Northern Province and is considered a clear message to Saudi Arabia’s regional rivals.

Saudi Arabia is currently fighting a war in Yemen and Syria to push back Huthi rebels and ISIS militants.

Saudi Arabia is facing suicide attacks from ISIS in which several civilians have died.

Saudi Arabia has also decided to send ground troops in Syria with the US coalition.
