PESHAWAR, (APP): KP Women Squash Championship organized
The 6th edition of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Women Squash Championship under the aegis of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Squash Association will be played here at PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex.
This was stated by Munawaz Zaman, Secretary KP Squash Association while talking to APP here on Sunday. He said all arrangements in this connection have already been made for the smooth conduct of the Championship, which is an annual feature of the Association calendar.
He said Komal Khan is the top seed of the Championship while Laiba Ijaz is the second seed, Kainat Khan is the third seeded and Saba of Abbottabad is the fourth seed player. Besides this a total of 16 players will be taking part in the Championship.
The aim and objective of the event, he said, to keep the women players inform as top four players will be going to represent Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the National Championship. He said former World Champion Qamar Zaman will also inaugurate the Championship on May 25 at 3.00 p.m.
He said the players of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa comprising Komal Khan, Laiba Ijaz, Kianat, Maria Khan represented Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the first Quaid-e-Azam Games and the team got bronze medal despite the presence of teams from other provinces.
The same team, he said, represented Peshawar District and Peshawar Region in the recently concluded Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Under-23 Inter-District and Inter Regional Games won gold medal in both individual and team event.
When contacted on phone Komal Khan, Laiba Ijaz, Kainat and Maria Khan said that they are fully ready for the participation in the KP Women Squash Championship. They said that the Championship is proved beneficial for them for the upcoming tournaments in Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi. With playing in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad it would improve our ranking at national level, they added.
The girls also appreciated former World Champion Qamar Zaman, Vice President Pakistan Squash Federation for regularly organizing tournaments for the female squash players and expressed the hope that they would soon reach to the top in the national ranking.
The women players also lauded the efforts being put in by Pakistan Air Force and specially availability of PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex round the clock along with coaches. They appreciated the dedication and commitment of the President Pakistan Squash Federation for the promotion of women squash in the country.
