LAHORE, (APP): Pakistan’s first ever earthquake resistant steel manufactured
Mughal Steel Limited (MSL) has introduced Pakistan’s firstever earthquake resistant steel under the brand name of Supreme to improve the safety of buildings during earthquake occurrences.
The Company’s CEO Khurram Javed told APP here Sunday that product is effective for all types of buildings – from houses to high rise buildings.
The new chemically reinforced and strengthened quality steel had been designed to enable the steel consumers to plan and construct buildings with an added element of safety during earthquakes.
The Supreme Steel bars have been designed to provide a more consistent resistance to seismic loads and will have a higher/uniform ductility than any other steel bars manufactured in Pakistan, he maintained.
The CEO said that Supreme is the result of extensive R&D, experimentation and testing efforts of Mughal Steel’s scientists. Supreme brand will represent high quality steel bars, which were scientifically tested to be the most reliable steel products to withstand earthquake movements and prevent potential damages to building/structures during earthquakes.
“In order to maintain a consistent quality, the production of Supreme involves regular resistance and extensive checks throughout the production process,” he mentioned.
To a question, the CEO said that Pakistan has been witnessing an increase in the frequency of earthquakes during the past two decades or so, and all of the seismic events within the boundaries of Pakistan had been devastating, causing extensive infrastructure damage and loss of precious lives.
Poorly-constructed buildings and houses, and increasing density of population in the earthquake-prone areas, were the main reasons for the extended damage and the number of causalities during the earthquakes.
“It is in this context that the Mughal Steel has developed a new product to enable the construction of building infrastructures to withstand the earthquake movements,” he maintained.
To another question, he said that Mughal Steel is a listed steel manufacturing company of Pakistan with a history of over 50 years of excellence to its credit.
The company made listed debut during February 2015, and has seen its profitability improve due to the ongoing construction boom in the country.
The company has one of the most modern steel manufacturing facilities, and supplies its products to domestic as well as foreign markets, he concluded.
