ISLAMABAD (APP): The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued notices to Inspector General Police (IGP) of Punjab Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera and Secretary Services Punjab Farhan Aziz in a contempt of court petition regarding demotion of former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Javed Hassan Shah.
The division bench of the court comprising Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan and Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the case.
During the course of proceedings, the bench remarked that the court would decide the matter after reviewing the replies of defence.
Advocate Akram Sheikh counsel for the petitioner told the court that his client was appointed as Sub-Inspector in 1972 and became DSP after getting promotions.
Later, he was awarded out of turn promotion as he was promoted to ASP due to showing his bravery during an operation in Thokar Niaz Baig Lahore.
He said that his client retired as DIG.
He said that his client’s promotion was challenged before the Lahore High Court and the LHC voids his promotion as ASP but the Supreme Court voids LHC order and restored his client as ASP.
He said that the IG Punjab demoted his client despite the apex court orders and his pension was also stopped.
He pleaded the court to initiate contempt of court proceedings against the IGP.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that the courts did not decide matters on emotions.
The court issued notices and hearing of the case was adjourned date in office.
