ANF busts international drugs smuggling gang in Punjab

RAWALPINDI: (APP) The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has busted an international drugs smuggling gang after seizing drugs worth Rs 130 million.

According to an ANF press release, an information was received that an international narcotics gang would try to smuggle huge quantity of narcotics abroad through seaport.

ANF Intelligence setup at the seaport was made vigilant, including a specific tasking, on the said information. On February 2 at KICT with the help of technical staff and dogs, the ANF recovered 12 kilogram fine quality heroin, which was tactfully concealed in wooden frames of furniture, being exported abroad. The furniture in the container comprised of 34 different types of pieces.

After detection and seizure of the container, the ANF Intelligence immediately started backtracking and arrested two persons on the same day from Karachi.

The detailed interrogation of these two persons led to the pointation of main culprit in Punjab. The ANF Punjab was immediately activated and simultaneous operations were conducted in Faisalabad and Gojra, resulting in apprehension of two main gang members.

The value of the heroin in international market is estimated to be Rs 130 million, which was being sent in a legitimate cargo consignment, the press release said.

At present, the investigation is underway to unearth the previous activities of the gang as well as money / assets made out of the drug money in the past.
