ASTORE: The Gilgit Baltistan Forest Department has decided to take strict action against timber mafia and maintained that elements involved in illegal cutting of trees would be sent to jails.
Divisional Forest Office (DFO)r Astore Saleem told APP on Friday that elements found guilty in illegal of trees would be sent to jails for three months besides registration of FIRs against them.
He said Forest Department was utilizing all available resources to protect and conserve the green gold.
The DFO said forests are precious assets of the district and great responsibility lied on people as for as its protection is concerned.
“We had banned illegal cutting of forests and will register FIRs in police stations against timber smugglers. The accused would be send to jails for at least three months besides imposition of heavy fine,” the DFO warned. (APP)
