ISLAMABAD: The Chairman of Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has said that India has waged a war against the Kashmiri people.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said this in his keynote address, delivered through a recorded video, on the topic titled “Revisiting the Kashmir Issue” as part of the two-day conference held by the Pakistan Harvard Forum at the Harvard University, Boston (USA).
Attended by a distinguished audience and large number of students. As the passport of Mirwaiz stands impounded, he could not attend the conference in person. This was his second address in the recent times at the Harvard.
According to a statement issued in Srinagar, addressing the gathering the Mirwaiz said, “The kind of repression unleashed on civilians in Kashmir is unprecedented.”
Referring to the issue in its historical and current context he said that Indian state had refused to acknowledge the people’s political struggle for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute as per their aspirations as a consequence of which they were making huge sacrifices and suffering tremendously.
He said that Kashmir was akin to a tinder box at present, with extreme volatility in the political situation and without timely intervention by the world community the consequences are bound to be ghastly and catastrophic. “The most simple and democratic way to resolve the conflict is through the promised referendum,” he added.
