ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Thursday issued directives to the satellite television channels regarding tele-plays, morning shows and Ramazan transmission.
PEMRA asked its license holder satellite televisions to avoid sectarian, sensitive matters and negative tendencies in their programmes.
The notification said television was the main source of entertainment for the common man and Pakistani drama industry has proved its mettle in the entire world by production of high quality plays.
Some satellite channels were producing teleplays which were against the social and cultural values of Pakistan, so the management of all channels has been advised to follow the code of conduct in letter and spirit and selection of the topics of the tele-plays should be selected very carefully.
If violent and negative scenes were unavoidable part of the story, they may be shown very briefly.
The notification further said dialogues causing disharmony among the society and are having indecent and unethical content should be avoided. Terrorists and those elements inciting to create anarchy should not be made topic of teleplays.
The channels have further been advised to follow the code of conduct implemented on the directives of the Supreme Court.
The managements of the channels have been advised to keep in mind sentiments of all segments of the society in morning shows.
Matters related to provincialism, personal and married life and negative tendencies should not be made topics of the shows and dressing of the hosts and the guests should be in conformity with Pakistan’s social and cultural values.
The channels should also avoid promoting quacks, magic and superstitions.
During Ramazan shows, sanctity of the month and religious traditions should be kept in mind while selecting topics of the programmes.
There should be some difference between the programmes in rest of the year and Ramzan transmission.
Moreover the issueless parents would not be allowed to adopt orphan children in television programmes.
Entertainment programmes should be telecast after 9 pm during Ramazan, but in last ten days of the holy month there would be complete ban on such programmes, the notification said. (APP)
