ISLAMABAD – Social Media is busting with the picture of the Islamabad Police SSP saluting the daughter of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Maryam Nawaz upon her arrival at the Federal Judicial Academy for criminal investigations.
Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz reached Federal Judicial Academy on Wednesday to appear before the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) that is probing the offshore assets of Sharif family amidst protocol that has created another debate on social media challenging Maryam’s designation to enjoy such privilege.
When Maryam Nawaz reached Federal Judicial Academy, SSP Arsala Saleem saluted her and accompanied her to the investigation room. This act of SSP has been widely criticized by the politicians, media personnel and civil society, as Maryam Nawaz holds no official post.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan took to Twitter and said it is “inexplicable why private citizen Maryam getting official protocol with police saluting as she goes to appear before criminal investigation?”
“The Pakistani nation must decide once and for all whether we are a democracy or a Badshahat,” stated Imran.
