Key Afghan Taliban commander killed in an air strike in Helmand: Report

KABUL – A key Taliban leader who was in charge of financial deals andproviding logistics for the militants was killed in an airstrike insouthern Helmand province of Afghanistan, Khaama Press has reported.

According to a statement released by Helmand governor’s office, the Talibanleader was killed in an airstrike conducted in Nade-e-Ali district ofHelmand but no further details were given regarding his identity.

The statement further added that the Taliban leader was in contact with thegroup’s leadership in Quetta and was arranging weapons and other militarykits for the insurgents.

In another operation conducted in Garamser district of Helmand, at leastten insurgents were killed and two more insurgents identified as MullahFazil and Abdul Raziq from Mullah Naeem group were detained while one oftheir vehicles was destroyed.

The Helmand governor office also added that eight insurgents were killed, 6others were wounded, and 2 PKM machine gun, 3 Ak-47s, and one vehicle weredestroyed during an airstrike conducted in Greshk district.

The Afghan security forces also discovered and defused 22 improvisedexplosive devices during the operations, the statement added.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgentshave not commented regarding the report so far.
