Donald Trump backs US Senator s proposed bill on Pakistan aid cut

WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has appreciated the new idea floatedby one of the senators for the usage of the stopped aid money to Pakistan.

Trump on Saturday issued support for US Senator Rand Paul’s proposal tofund infrastructure projects in the US with foreign aid halted from goingto Pakistan.

“Good idea Rand!” Trump responded on Twitter.

In a tweet, Thursday Kentucky Republican Senator Paul said he planned tointroduce his proposal soon.

“My bill will take the money that would have gone to Pakistan and put it inan infrastructure fund to build roads and bridges here at home,” Paultweeted.

The New Year tweet by US President Donald Trump accusing Pakistan of liesand deceit, thinking US leaders to be fools, led to heightened tensionsbetween Pakistan and the US.

“They give safe havens to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan, withlittle help. No more!” he said on January 1.

Later, on January 5, the US announced that it is suspending the transfer ofmilitary equipment and security-related funds to Pakistan.

In an interview with The Guardian at the PM Office, Abbasi said thatreports that the US was considering cuts of up to $2 billion in securityassistance were bewildering as the total aid Pakistan – civilian andmilitary – actually received was a tiny fraction of that amount.[image: an image]“The aid in the last five years at least has been lessthan $10m a year. It is a very, very insignificant amount. So when I readin the paper that aid at the level of $250m or 500 or 900 has been cut, weat least are not aware of that aid,” The Guardian reported.link>

“Pakistan is a sovereign country and Pakistan has always abided byinternational conventions,” he said in the report. “We are today fightingthe largest war on terror in the world. We are fighting the world’s war onterror with our own resources … That is something the world has toappreciate.”

“We have over 6,500 [killed] almost 37,000 of the civilian population hasbeen killed. There are tens of thousands of people injured. We havesuffered a loss of over $120bn in our economy. So the world has toappreciate that. We just want the world to know that Pakistan is on theforefront on the war on this terror,” he stated further.
