Noose tightened against Sharifs over anti judiciary remarks

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday admitted for hearing apetition seeking initiation of contempt proceedings against ousted primeminister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz for criticizing thejudiciary in their speeches.

Advocate Adnan Iqbal has taken the Sharif family to the high court forseverely criticizing the judiciary in the wake of disqualification of thethrice-elected premier at the hands of the apex court in the Panama Paperscase.

The petitioner submitted that the duo had been inciting hatred against thejudiciary in their speeches, which constituted contempt of court.

He stated they had made anti-judiciary remarks in their recent speeches atPunjab House and Kot Momin’s public meeting.

The petitioner, thus, pleaded with the court to initiate contempt of courtproceedings against them and direct the Pemra to restrain televisionchannels from airing their contemptuous speeches.

Justice Amir Farooq of the IHC accepted today the petition for hearing anddirected the court office to fix the hearing of the matter in the comingweek.
