PESHAWAR: Pakistani officials and police on Wednesday said two missilesfired from a US drone have struck a home near the Afghan border, killingtwo militants from the Haqqani network.
Local police chief Ameer Zaman Khan said that strike took place in DapaMamuzai village near Kurram tribal region.
Two intelligence officials identified the slain militants as commanderAhsanullah and Nasir Mehsud. They said the men were from the Haqqaninetwork of the Afghan Taliban.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorisedto talk to media because of the sensitive nature of the issue.
Pakistan considers US drone strikes a violation of its sovereignty, whilethe US accuses Pakistan of providing safe havens for militants.
Pakistan denies the charge, saying it acts against militants withoutdiscrimination.
Earlier, on January 17, as many as two suspected militants were killed indrone strike in Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan.
The drone attack took place in Shanqilay area of Afghanistan near thePak-Afghan border. Hours before, at least one person was injured in astrike in Lower Kurram Agency.
A missile fired from a drone landed outside a house in Badshah Kot area ofthe agency – one of the seven tribal agencies in Pakistan’s FederallyAdministered Tribal Areas.
