ISLAMABAD – The first unit of Tarbela 4th Extension Power Project havingcapacity of 470 megawatt will start generation next month.

The project would cost 920 million dollars and additional 1410 MW cheaperhydel electricity would be generated after completion.

Project Director of Tarbela 4th Extension Power Project Shoail Khan in aninterview on Sunday said that over all physical work on the project hasreached at 91.88 per cent so far.

He said the 470 MW capacity second unit would start generation by Aprilthis year followed by third unit in May.

He said three units of 470 MW each were being installed at the power housewhich would enhance the total electricity generation to 4888 MW from theexisting 3478 MW.

Sohail Khan said the World Bank had provided 840 million dollars for theproject while Water and Power Development Authority arranged the remaining80 million dollars.
