SRINAGAR – Indian paramilitary trooper was killed and another two wereinjured in an attack on a CRPF camp in Srinagar on Monday.
The trooper was wounded in the shootout as the security forces prepared fora final assault against the holed-up terrorists, a police officer said, asper IANS.
He was shifted to the nearby SMHS hospital, barely 300 metres away from thesite of the gunfight, and died later.
Kashmir police chief SP Vaid in a tweet said, “I congratulate alert CRPFsentry for averting suicidal attack in Karan Nagar.”
Earlier around 4.30 am on Monday, two militants were spotted by an alertsentry at the observation post of 23rd battalion of the CRPF in Karan Nagararea.
The two were forced to flee as the alert sentry fired at them.
Searches in the area revealed that militants carrying backpacks and AK-47rifles had taken shelter in a building near the CRPF camp, which was thensurrounded.
After the hiding militants were challenged, they fired at the securityforces triggering a gunfight.
The latest attack on the Army camp took place nearly 15 months after theJammu region was hit by a similar attack.
The last terror attack in the Jammu region had taken place on November 29,2016, when terrorists had stormed the Army’s Nagrota camp on the outskirtsof Jammu city, killing seven Army personnel including two officers.
