Who will lead funeral prayers of Asma Jehangir

LAHORE – Pakistan’s prominent human rights lawyer Asma Jahangir took herlast breath at the age of 66 on Sunday after suffering from a brainhemorrhage in Lahore.

Jahangir was the first woman to become president of the Supreme Court BarAssociation of Pakistan, besides heading the Human Rights Commission ofPakistan. She was known for her persistence on advocating for issuesincluding minorities’ rights and women’s rights.

Her funeral prayer will be offered on February 13 (Tuesday), a familysource said. The prayers will be offered in Qaddafi Stadium Lahore.

Media reports quoting family sources say the funeral prayers of thedeceased activist will be led by Jamat e Islami (JI) founder Abul A’laMaududi’s son, Syed Haider Farooq Maududi.

The reports say that Asma Jahangir’s family has long terms with Maududifamily, adding that the deceased lawyer had been spotted at the residenceof Haider Farooq Maududi.

Maududi’s son has expressed negative remarks against the JI, founding byhis father and currently led by Sirajul Haq.
