WASHINGTON – Tech giant IBM has unveiled the world’s smallest computermeasuring 1 x 1 mm. This device was unveiled at ongoing IBM Think 2018Conference.
“The world’s smallest computer is an IBM-designed edge device architectureand computing platform that is smaller than a grain of salt will cost lessthan ten cents to manufacture and can monitor, analyze, communicate, andeven act on data. It packs several hundred thousand transistors into afootprint barely visible to the human eye and can help verify that aproduct has been handled properly throughout its long journey,” IBM wrotein its research page.
The device is a part of IMB Research’s 5 in 5 project. “Within the nextfive years, cryptographic anchors — such as ink dots or tiny computerssmaller than a grain of salt — will be embedded in everyday objects anddevices,” IBM added.
IBM has also announced the formal launch of Watson Assistant, a smartenterprise assistant powered with artificial intelligence (AI), cloud andthe Internet of Things (IoT) and it can be accessed via voice or textinteraction.
The smart enterprise assistant is aimed at helping businesses enhance theirbrand loyalty and transform customer experiences even while keeping thedata private and secure, IBM said.
