Saleem Mandiwala elected as deputy Chairman Senate

ISLAMABAD: Opposition candidate Saleem Mandiwala win the slot of deputyChairman Senate with 54 votes while PML N candidate Usman Kakar got 44votes.

Earlier Sadiq Sanjrani won the election for the slot of Chairman Senatelink> as per the initial reports.

Opposition candidate Sadiq Sanjrani secured 57 votes while PMLN candidateRaja Zafarulhuq has secured 46 votes.

Members of the Senate link> haveconcluded voting through a secret ballot to elect a new chairman. After thechairman is elected, voting will commence for the deputy chairman post.

Earlier on Monday, 51 newly-elected Senators took oath by presiding officerSenator Sardar Yaqub Khan when the Senatelink>session began a little after 10am.Ishaq Dar could not take oath as he is in London on medical grounds.

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and its allies NationalParty (NP), Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), PML-Functional and AwamiNational Party agreed on PML-N’s Raja Zafarul Haq as chairman and PkMAP’sUsman Kakar as deputy chairman.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and PakistanTehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rallied behind Sadiq Sanjrani, an independent senatorfrom Balochistan, for chairman.
