KABUL – At least five members of the Haqqani network have been arrestedduring an operation of the Afghan national defense and security forces incentral Maidan Wardak province.
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said at least two key commanders and anotherkey member of the network who was involved in making roadside mines arealso among those arrested.
“Five Haqqani Network Group members were arrested including two keycommanders of the group during overnight special operation conducted by theGeneral Command of Police Special Units (GCPSU) in Tangi Wardak region,Sayed Abad district of Maidan Wardak province,” MoI said in a statement.
The statement further added that Two key commanders of the group identifiedas Obaidullah and Abdul Haq are also among those arrested.
“During the operation, a Haqqani Network Group member who was expert ofImprovised explosive Device (IED) making also killed,” the statement said,adding that no GCPSU member and civilian were harmed.
The anti-government armed militant groups including Taliban and Haqqaninetwork have not commented regarding the report so far.
