Saudi Navy oil tanker attacked in international waters: officials

RIYADH – A Saudi oil tanker was subjected to a Houthi-Iranian attack onTuesday afternoon.

Col. Turki al-Maliki confirmed that at exactly 1:30 pm local time, one ofthe Saudi oil tankers was attacked in international waters west of Hudaydahport, currently controlled Houthi armed militias supported by Iran, AlArabiya has reported.

The planned attacked was foiled after one coalition naval ship whichcarried out an intervention. The attack resulted in some minor damage tothe tanker which completed its navigational course north accompanied by thecoalition naval ship.Maliki underlined that the attack presented a serious threat to the freedomof maritime navigation and international trade in the Strait ofBab-el-Mandeb and the Red Sea.

The coalition spokesman said that the continuation of these attemptsreflected the danger of these militias and those who support them onregional and international security. He stressed that the Hudaydah port isstill used as a launching point for “terrorist operations” as well as thesmuggling of missiles and weapons.

He added that the leadership of the Joint Alliance forces continue to takeand implement the necessary measures and all means to preserve security andstability. As well as to keep free shipping and international trade inBab-el-Mandeb strait and the Red Sea.
