KABUL – *Taliban commander Mullah Mustafa was killed in a clash withsecurity forces on Wednesday afternoon, local officials confirmed onThursday.*
The clashes started in Gozara district of the province after policelaunched an operation. Mustafa and one of his bodyguards were killed, aspokesman for theprovincial police chief Abdul Ahad Walizada said.
“The commander was involved in a number of insurgency attacks in Herat cityand southern districts of Herat,” Walizada said, adding that “the policealso discovered some weapons.”
However, he did not provide further details about the operation.
The Taliban has not yet commented.
