1853 individuals stripped off extra security in Punjab

LAHORE – The Punjab government has withdrawn police security from theunauthorised individuals in the province on the directives of Supreme Court.

Chief Justice of Pakistan, Mian Saqib Nisar had ordered all the provincialpolice chiefs on Thursday to withdraw the additional security provided tothe unauthorised officials, following which the Inspector General Police,Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Salahuddin Mehsud, complied with the order.According toa report by IGP Punjab, as many as 4,610 policemen have reported back totheir respective police stations, in compliance with the apex court’sdirectives.

According to well-placed sources, as many as 1853 individuals have beenstripped off the additional security, provided to them by the Punjab police.

‘1347 police personnel had been deployed with 297 politicians while 527police officers were also keeping security in Punjab’ said the sources.Theyalso revealed that the Punjab government had also deployed as many as 296policemen with 250 religious leaders, who have now been called back, on theinstructions of IGP, last night (Friday).

It is pertinent to mention here that on April 19, the chief justice wasinformed during the proceedings of VVIPs Protocol case from IGP KPKSalahuddin Mehsud that 3000 policemen were deployed in the province on VVIPsecurity.

To this, the chief justice said that those who had resources should makearrangements for their security too rather than relying on the government.

He directed to withdraw the excess security before the 12:00 midnight anddirected the IGP to submit a report after implementation on the orders.
